Cryogenic temperatures present challenges that need to be overcome if the insulation material will stand up to the harsh conditions such as temperature cycling and frost heave. It is important that the insulation is installed with a degree of care to ensure that cold spots do not form, and that moisture ingress is prevented. Since Cryogel Z is thinner than traditional insulation products it can be installed in locations where access is limited. Cryogel Z is hydrophobic. In combination with the factory installed vapour barrier, this means that each layer will prevent moisture transferring through the insulation. When installed according to manufacturer’s instructions Cryogel Z can prevent CUI to pipework, vessels and fittings. Other benefits to these materials include the savings in cost, storage, and labour that can be made due to the reusability of the product. After inspections of the assets being protected, the original insulation can be reapplied. Most other insulation materials will need to be completely reinstalled in this situation. Foamglas insulation is ideal for insulation systems that are either much higher or lower than the ambient temperature. Cellular glass shines in cryogenic applications, due to the closed cell structure from its manufacture. This closed cell insulation means that it is impermeable to water vapour or liquid. This lowers the requirement for moisture barriers, and the insulation will not soak up any moisture and store it in structure when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, which can happen with some foam or wool insulation products. Moisture in the insulation reduces the effectiveness of the insulation and also the life of the insulation. If the temperature in the insulation is below freezing, moisture that forms ice will damage the structure. You will not run into these problems if you install closed cell Foamglas as per instructions, so you should call us if you have any questions. Cellular glass is ideal for cryogenic temperature applications for LNG plants. Key factors are the impermeability and the non combustibility of the insulation, both very important for the LNG industry. The high compressive load means that Foamglas is ideal for insulating the bases of tanks. Dimensional stability keeps the supports in the same configuration, even when subject to extreme temperatures. The lack of flammable chemicals and hydrocarbon binders mean that the product is completely fire retardant. Call us today to find out more
PIR & PIR FOAM (Polyisocyanurate)
There are many kind of insulating foams developed for specific markets and applications such as commercial and civil buildings other than industrial and cryogenic plants. Each product presents different fire behaviours, thermal performance and physical/mechanical characteristics, tailored on project’s requirement/specification. The most important features are density (as it can determine mechanical resistance – mainly compressive, tensile and shear strength) and thermal conductivity (usually 0.021 mW/mK at 10°C for low density foams). Bellis offers both low-density and high-density foams in the range from 32 to 800 kg/m³, Low densities have better thermal properties (32-60 kg/m3) and are the first choice for the insulation of walls, tanks, pipes, while high density foams (80 – 800 kg/m3) are better for applications that will support mechanical stress, such as weight (insulated pipe supports). Low density boasts a high thermal efficiency meaning it is an effective temperature insulator. Coupling this with high degree of fire resistance (class 1 ASTM E84), high dimensional stability and competitive price is why PIR is used in the specification for cryogenic piping and vessels on the large LNG Gas Plants. Elastomeric foam is the flexible, closed cell, elastomeric, nitrile rubber insulation that offers reliable protection against condensation and effectively prevents energy loss. The most advisabilities is they are light weight, dust free, fibre free and CFC free with an ODP of zero. Insulation designed for heated and cold water services, heating systems, chilled water lines, and refrigerant pipes. Armaflex is available as both pre-formed pipe sections and flat sheet. It is tested and certified to the fire performance standards required by Australia’s National Construction Code and the New Zealand Building Code for use in commercial buildings and multi-residential construction. Thermobreak Pipe Section
Thermobreak Pipe sections is preformed tube insulation for pipes, and is made from physically (irradiation) cross-linked closed-cell, polyolefin foam, factory bonded to pure reinforced aluminium foil. With a lower thermal conductivity than any other flexible insulation material,
almost zero vapour permeability, it provides superior energy saving performance, fast and simple installation, and trouble -free operation in a variety of environments.
polyethylene insulation – armaflex
Polyethylene Insulation (Armaflex) is the flexible, closed cell, elastomeric, nitrile rubber insulation that offers reliable protection against condensation and effectively prevents energy loss. The most advisabilities is they are light weight, dust free, fibre free and CFC free with an ODP of zero
